Singapore Dreaming
Yes i watched Singapore Dreaming, a local production directed by e husband-wife pairing of Colin Goh n Woo Yen Yen. who's colin goh? he's most famous for Talkingcock.com. if u haven already known wad tt is, click here.
story wise, it's abt a family struggling thru debt n awaiting for their prized son to graduate from USA. e family is in debt aft sending Seng to e States... ironically, pa (played by 刘谦益) ah Huat is a debt collector. e family is disgruntled generally. Irene (tis name is somewhat cliched.. i duno y but i juz feel so), Seng's gf, also paid from her savings to help fund Seng's overseas studies...
Ah Huat realli huat ah, aft Seng picks his Toto numbers and wins $2 million top prize. buden he dio heart attack. e family sinks into depression. underlying cracks surface n quarrels abound aplenty...
honestly, such shows usually make me cry like nobody's business. yeah they do. tis one was not so much, which was gd. cos it meant i was able to take in more of e show proper. wad realli got me crying was e scene when Irene was crying beside a supposedly-stoned out Ma (aft Huat's death). den Ma responded to Irene with her own story... den e hokkien song which started e show played with her singing in a half-crying tone. it was painful. so painful tt i was realli CRYING. dammit.
another stellar performance from richard low (刘谦益 la). he's amazingly gd. e rest of e actors n actresses were pretty gd too. story wise, perhaps a lil weak n a lil too slow moving.. but it's nice to break away from stories where aft investing so much money in e guy, e guy repents n does great. aft 202, i noticed certain aspects of cinematography which i prob wun haf last time. increased capacity in watchin e movie. tt's an enjoyable thought in itself to entertain.
i'm not an appreciator of e arts, honestly. but i do tink tt tis movie was worth watching, double it up with being a locally directed film. kudos to Colin Goh. talkingcock can be a serious matter.
thanx for pulling me along to watch.
y r we still chasing e materials of money. am i guilty of it too?
yes i am.
!@#$%-else go sign on with some armed forces? passion? loyalty to country? oh pls. but yes.. when u feel so lost n when u feel like u wan security (yes pun), u do such stuff. go interview n qn all those who sign on man. u realli sign on cos of passion n u wanna serve e country? so u go in n write papers to b rejected n to b brought up again few years down e road? so u go in n write papers to put down previously written papers? for wad sia.
guess y i'd advise u to discourage tt lil one from doin e same. it's not worth ur time, ur youth if u'd like to call it tt. it's been great staying here. but not bcoz of e country, realli. it's bcoz of e frens who r here. it's bcoz of e teachers who shape u n make u tink. it's bcoz of ur family who's there for u always n supporting u. but nobody can shape wad u wanna be. n when u duno wad isit u r in it for, den u realli need to sit urself down n tink thru it.
bcoz u dun wanna end up like me. 21++ years down n duno wth he's doing, n still doesn't.
when even ur teacher who u r so close to emphasizes to u tt grades r e most impt. yes yes, interest is impt but u need to convert tt into grades. interest shld make u study hard enuf n get gd grades! 1st class. 2nd upper is not gd enuf! 2nd lower is not gd at all lah. cmon u can do better.
helps tt everyone else is doing so well. local n overseas. juz doin so damn well. hint of jealousy? yeah sure.
i duno if i shld care abt my grades at all anymore. n i'm wondering if i'd b able to carve out a route for myself in e next 6 years i haf. and watching singapore dreaming juz cuts into me so much. realli, i dun mind having a partner who does so much better than me n earns so much more than me, as long as she doesn't mind. honestly, i wun even ask "do u respect me?" and get a "of cos i do, silly. wad r u tinking of? u juz need to work harder."
no i wun even ask that. as long as i can find sth i enjoy doin. as long as.
no ill intention intended nor implications nor wadsoever. but.
i juz dun wanna freaking become an insurance agent.
